Art Hister ...Continued From Page 7
..... So what to do about ED? Well, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that changing to a healthier lifestyle can reduce the risk of either getting ED in the first place or help improve a case of ED that’s already there. In fact, several really good studies have found that for mild-to-moderate ED, a simple graduated aerobic exercise program can do as good a job at improving the situation as ED drugs can, with the added bonus that doing exercise also helps lower the risks of many other health problems, which the drugs can’t do.
..... As we all know, however, most guys would rather exercise their jaw than exercise their body, so most men prefer to treat their ED with one of the ED-countering pills, namely, the more-famous-than-god Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra. How do these drugs work? Pretty much like those attendants in the Japanese Metro stations whose only job is to push commuters back into the severely over-loaded subway cars when the commuters fall out. Thus, ED drugs stop blood from leaving the penis, keeping the penis engorged for longer, and hopefully, for as long as needed to get the job done.
..... And the good news is that the drugs work well, although not perfectly. Estimated effectiveness rates vary in studies from 50 % to 80 %, so when one ED drug fails, it always pays to try another, just in case.
..... Despite their effectiveness, however, a man should never start on an ED drug (and should certainly never purchase one off the net) without talking to a doctor or a pharmacist for two very important reasons.
..... First, as emphasized earlier, all men with ED should also get evaluated for the presence of heart disease and diabetes.
..... Equally important, these meds are not for everyone. They can be particularly dangerous to men taking other drugs called nitrates, for example, or to men with certain visual problems.
..... Best thing to do, guys, as always, is first, discuss your problem with your doctor, and second, if you get a prescription for an ED drug, talk over the potential risks with your pharmacist. And don’t be shy, eh. This is a new era, after all, and when you have ED, you should be shouting it from the rooftops.
..... But please, not if you live in my neighbourhood.
