....Middle age is something that can sneak up on you when you least expect it. Many of us cruise through the decades giving all to our careers and our families and taking little time to give back to ourselves. We get caught up on the hamster wheel of life and run in circles pushing our bodies and our minds to reach further, do more. |

to as manopause, is a time of declining testosterone levels and can be more ambiguous and elusive. Symptoms of hormonal imbalance are wide ranging and can be hard to diagnose until there is a crisis like diabetes or thyroid issues.
....We often treat the individual symptoms but we have to remember that these hormones are part of a huge chain |
This is the program that society endorses. We desire things, achievements, recognition and will often keep reaching for the next fix without taking time to truly connect with the reality of what it is doing to our bodies. Before we know it we look in the mirror and a grey haired stranger is staring back at us.
These years are supposed to be the wisdom years. Indigenous societies valued their elders. We tend to hide ours. We look at aging as a disease but aging in itself is not. It is a natural, organic, free range process. We live and we die. And all the other stuff in between is the gooey juicy stuff that helps us |

reaction in the endocrine system. When one link in this chain is out of balance it affects the whole. We need to think more holistically and treat our bodies with greater respect. Working with a natural health practitioner to guide you and address your individuality is the optimal approach but in the meantime by following these few basic suggestions you can greatly enhance your current feeling of wellbeing:

grow. One thing for certain is that by time we reach our 50’s we should know everything that no longer works in our lives. However some of us will press the snooze button when we get a wake up call and are quite happy to go back to sleep! And then we wonder why our bodies hurt and we no longer have the stamina we used to have.
.....The forties will usually offer some insights and challenges to those who are in denial. This usually comes in the form of love handles where they never used to be and serious sports injuries from playing Frisbee or mini golf. A body under stress will slow down. A body under stress will not have the energy to heal as efficiently as it did in our youth. A body under stress will be more at risk for major health issues.
.....Stress is not just about what we are doing to our bodies. There is also an internal transformation in our midlife hormonal environment. Quite the opposite of puberty but still a dance of transition that can create symptoms of unease that will vary in each individual. For women menopause is a time of dropping estrogen levels and a cessation of menstruation. It is real and concrete. For men andropause, often referred |

wreak havoc at a cellular level which accelerates the aging process.
2. Eat a balanced diet full of high quality fresh fruits, veggies, lean proteins and healthy fats in moderation. Eat more raw food. Eat whole food. The more we refine and tamper food the more energy it robs from our bodies. Even organic junk food is junk food.
3. Slow down! Nothing puzzles me more than to watch people in a hurry going nowhere. When you close your eyes at night are you remembering the subtle hues of the sunset or building the shopping list for tomorrow? Be here now - it is all we have. Meditation is a wonderful tool for bringing balance into our day.
4. Yes. Drink your water. There really is no substitute and your kidneys will thank you for years to come.
5. Include more super foods like goji berries, spirulina, wheat grass and sea vegetables. These nutritional powerhouses deliver big nutrition and a little goes a long way.
.....Throw a daily multi mineral and vitamin into the mix along with regular exercise and you are on the road to optimal health and a long and happy life!
.....Good health to you! |
