Don’t Forget to

Smile

..... I have been meditating for a few years now and even though my beginner mind often tries to squirm out of it I still try my best to sit on the cushion fairly regularly. Like anything else that takes the form of a ... ..ters.” I say - when we are not acting from our hearts we are reacting to our fears. Fear is a negative vibration.
I believe that everything we do and every thought we have carries an energetic value. Think
regular discipline there is a tendency for me to rebel. Especially if it is something that is good for me! I guess this stems from early childhood issues with authority figures. Even when that authority figure is my own will or lack thereof of willpower! ..... Recently I was reading a novel where the Author’s teacher described a smiling meditation. “Smile with face, smile with mind and even smile with your liver.” This intrigued me and the next time I sat - I practiced this instead of the solemn formal practice I had been striving to embrace. I was amazed at the difference in the quality of my meditation. My whole body felt lighter and a joyful sensation permeated my being. What I discovered was that I had an overall sense of wellness and peace in that moment. What a difference a smile
fof it as an energetic currency system. Simply put - if we are dwelling in negative thoughts we are depleting our energy reserves and when we are truly joyous and happy we are able to access our limitless abundance. These vibrations ripple out to affect the balance of the global scale. On a recent trip to Peru a young Shaman I traveled with explained to me that we need to stop sending Mother Earth garbage; both physical and energetic. “You see,” he explained. “You always get back what you give, if you are always giving her your garbage that is exactly what you will receive from her.” It is no different with our neighbours and co-workers. It is no different with the human body.
..... Whether we are sitting in meditation or going about our daily business, the power
makes.
..... If we examine the world around us it is easy to get caught up in negative thoughts for there is never a lack of stuff to worry about. Am I good enough? Is my partner good enough? Are my children happy? And let’s not forget all the issues with our environment and climate change. Yes, there is plenty to worry about and no shortage of reminders in the headlines on just how hard life is. It is part of our conditioning to keep our nose to the grindstone and nothing worth doing is ever easy. Where did this come from and when did life become such a serious endeavour? It is as if we feel like we don’t deserve happiness -“how dare I be happy when there is so much suffering on the planet?” Where is the joy? If I had my way all the news on TV would be good news! Let’s give each other a pat on the back and report all the wonderful things we have to be thankful about. Let’s count our blessings.
..... Love is a healing vibration. You can’t get much higher than love. Mother Theresa said: “It is not how much you do, but how much Love you put into the doing that mat
... of positive thinking has a ripple effect on our whole being and the wellness of the planet. Although it is unclear exactly how it works, researchers have a theory that seeing the positive instead of the negative induces a relaxation response which reduces overall stress in the body. This allows for a wide variety of health effects. These may include a stronger immune response, better coping mechanisms, less risk of heart disease, lower blood pressure, better digestion and circulation and many other side benefits. And who knows? You might even have some fun with it!
..... Not everyone is a natural optimist but if you start to see your cup as half full instead of half empty you will also begin to recognize negative thought patterns when they arise and turn them to a more upbeat focus. Meditation is a wonderful tool for tuning into where our mind dwells. Find a form that works for you and I encourage you to try sitting on the cushion and smiling with your face, your mind and even your liver! And don’t forget – when you are smiling – the whole world smiles with you!
..... Good Health to You!
