on that percentage, that is, 37 % of all women - young and old - alike complain that they have trouble controlling their bladders (and/or anuses), and it’s very important to point out that these conditions are no laughing matter.
..... Indeed, even though bladder problems are not life-limiting, they are still serious medical conditions that have significant negative impacts on quality of life, even though most people are very reluctant to talk about these problems publicly or even with their doctor.
..... In fact, ever since ED came out of the closet, it seems to me that the next big barrier to break is the one that has been stopping us from owning up to suffering from incontinence (although, to be frank, a few nights ago, after sitting through the umpteenth unrealistic ad of smiling happy couples who had triumphed over ED with a particular brand of ED drug, it occurred to me that I wouldn’t be that unhappy if ED slunk back into the closet for a while, at least).
..... Anyway, back to the bladder and the specifics of this survey of over 4,000 women, of whom 80 percent had given birth to at least one child, which found that the problems women complained of “down there” include stress urinary incontinence, overactive bladders, and dropped or prolapsed pelvic organs, and anal incontinence, |
..... OK, guys, and by “guys”, I mean only those men reading this who think they know a lot about women, which is, of course, all guys reading this, because even though men are continually exposed to indisputable evidence that women are simply beyond men’s comprehension (is there, for example, a single straight guy out there who can distinguish between an olive green, an avocado green or a military green kitchen appliance, something that every woman is born with an unfailing ability to do? Or in the history of western civilization, has any male ever recognized that a bathroom needed to be “updated” before the floors had actually caved in, again, an ability ingrained in women?), most men still believe, sweet idiots, that they know all they need to know about women.
..... Anyway, here’s the question, guys: what percentage of young women, that is, women who are still pre-menopausal, suffer from bladder problems?
..... And here are your choices, guys:
..... ..... a) 7 %
..... ..... b) 17 %
..... ..... c) 27 %
..... ..... d) 37 %
..... ..... e) huh?
..... The answer, at least according to a recent study from the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Kaiser |
|

Permanente San Diego Medical Center and published in the March issue of the journal, Obstetrics & Gynecology, is c) 37%.
..... In other words, nearly 4 in 10 young women are plagued (and that’s an appropriate word, I think) by at least one pelvic floor-related problem, a number that I for one found to be startlingly high (hey, I’m happy to admit I know nothing about women, something my wife will confirm for you in the bat of an eye).
What stunned me even more, though, (it was a slow medical news day, admittedly) is that when we dig deeper into that study, age hasno bearing
