artery disease, severe infections, and so on – so the longer they live (ad that’s good), the more they cost (that’s not as good).
.....Pretty depressing news, eh, and the things is that I’ve really tried not to be too much of a downer by not focusing on some of the worst stuff such as an American study concluding that 1/3 of kids (it’s probably higher now) born in the year 2000 will end up with Type 2 diabetes, and several other computer-projections that because of diabetes (and other premature lifestyle-linked health problems affecting a growing number of young people, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and yes, even strokes), the generations coming along now are the first generations in history that will not live as long as their parents (perhaps as much as 5 years less on average).
.....Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.....Now, because of my age (I won’t tell you lies, but I will tell you that I am old enough to have watched Rin Tin Tin, Roy Rogers, and Howdy Doody regularly on an Admiral television set with rabbit ears; that’s old, eh!), it’s unlikely that Type 2 diabetes will unduly impact my own taxes too much more than it already has because those young people who are now being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes are still a few years away from having their kidneys stop working or ending up with a stroke, or getting government-supported handouts of Viagra because all the guys have ED at the age of 35, but I still worry about it because as a health educator, I believe it’s my job to get more people to take this condition more seriously.
.....So listen up, folks: Type 2 diabetes is 80 % or so driven by inappropriate lifestyle choices, and although as I pointed out earlier, it’s more likely to occur in certain ethnic groups, none of us is immune, so the more you weigh, the less you move, the higher your risk.
.....Period.
.....Also, and this is really important, although it’s commonly said that the average diabetic walks around for 6 years with diabetes before they get diagnosed, that person who eventually develops diabetes is actually experiencing damage to their
